Pleasure boating and Rabaska

Developed by Gaz Métro, Enbridge Inc., and Gaz de France - three leaders in the field of natural gas transportation and distribution - Rabaska is an $840 million project to build a natural gas terminal in east-end Lévis. The project consists of a deepwater jetty in the St. Lawrence River to accommodate tankers carrying liquefied natural gas (LNG) as well as underground cryogenic pipes connecting the jetty to two reservoirs, where the natural gas will be stored and regasified for incorporation into the Québec and Ontario pipeline network.

Besides the jetty and two reservoirs, the project includes regasification equipment - to heat the LNG to its gaseous state - administration buildings, a control room, supply and maintenance areas, and a 40-odd kilometer pipeline connected to the interprovincial distribution network.

After securing key authorizations from the relevant federal and provincial agencies, departments, and ministries, Rabaska can be built in east-end Lévis as an alternative natural gas supply source for Quebec and eastern Ontario. Once up and running, Rabaska will be one of the largest taxable industrial facilities in Québec. It represents a major investment that is not only strategically important from an energy point of view, but will also have a considerable short and long term economic impact on Lévis, the Chaudière-Appalaches region, Québec City, and Québec as a whole.
